The Power of Words to Heal Broken Places

By Level9 / Free

In my life, I’ve learned that healing doesn’t always come through answers—it often comes through expression. Sometimes you don’t need someone to fix your pain; you just need someone to help you feel it. That’s what poetry has done for me. That’s why I write.

The Therapeutic Encouragement series was born out of real experiences—grief, faith, cultural identity, personal struggle. These weren’t stories I made up; they were emotions I lived through. And I knew if I was feeling them, someone else probably was too. So I picked up my pen and started putting pieces of my heart on paper.

Writing “Why Didn’t You Call Me, John?” was one of the most emotional moments of my creative journey. It’s a letter of love, loss, and unanswered questions—sent from one sibling to another. But the deeper I wrote, the more I realized it was a message many people could relate to. We’ve all lost someone. We’ve all had something left unsaid. And sometimes, the only way to speak it is through poetry.

Every book in this series carries a piece of my journey. Next was about thanking God in the midst of survival. Real Talk was about addressing social realities many are afraid to speak on. Freedom and Democracy was a call to reflection—on what it means to grow, to grieve, and to rise.

I don’t write for perfection. I write for connection. If my words have ever made you pause, cry, think, or heal—even just a little—then the mission is complete. We are all in this together, and sometimes a poem can hold what a thousand conversations cannot.

So if you’re hurting, doubting, or even growing—I encourage you to keep turning the pages. There’s healing in these verses.
